My name is Lizzie, and I’m a born and raised Canberran. I’m here to share with you everything outdoors in Canberra and its surrounds, from bushwalking to birdwatching. This isn’t about conquering Kosciusko (although it’s a wonderful walk!), or the most extreme hikes – this is about appreciating the Bush Capital in all its natural beauty.
I wholeheartedly believe Canberra is the most beautiful city in the world, and here’s why:
Canberra has 39 nature reserves, home to hundreds of species of animals and plants.
No other city in Australia boasts the same access to nature, and it’s right on our doorstep! Even better, you don’t have to be a bush battler – there’s plenty of accessible trails for everybody to enjoy. We also have some fantastic gardens and festivals.
Having lived here my whole life, I understand how easy it is to become disenchanted with small city life. We’ve all heard the “Canberra is boring!” shtick. I fell for it myself for over 20 years…

…until I began to see Canberra through a different lens (literally!). I took an old Panasonic camera out to the Botanic Gardens, and everything changed. In the years since, I’ve been addicted to exploring the natural parts of Canberra. It’s been my biggest joy and my escape from the daily grind.
So come with me! Step out of the city and into our gorgeous natural surrounds that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Nothing too extreme – we’ll leave that to the expert hikers. But if you want to spot a quoll, find a fabulous view, or stretch your legs a little off the beaten track, stick around.
Let’s get wild!
