Introducing Natural Capital

We’ve launched!

Welcome to Natural Capital, the backyard you never knew Canberra had.

My name’s Lizzie, and I’m so excited to share with you the natural beauty that makes Canberra (in my humble opinion) the most beautiful city in the world. Did you know we have 39 nature reserves within the ACT? No wonder we’re known as the bush capital. We also have gorgeous gardens and stunning lookouts. Can you imagine what wonders you could find within so much nature?

Well, there’s no need to just imagine! As a born and raised Canberran, I can help you hit the best spots. For years now, getting out into nature has been my happy place. Taking my camera out in the wild is my escape from the daily 9 to 5. I’m no seasoned hiker though, and you don’t have to be either. We’re here to explore the beauty of nature, and that’s open to everybody!

I wasn’t always a lover of the outdoors. My admiration for Canberra’s beauty developed (pun intended) when I began to view it through the lens of a camera. I took an old Panasonic point-and-shoot up to the National Botanic Gardens in 2021, and it was a day that changed everything for me. Stopping to smell the flowers (literally) and fresh air, photographing native birds flitting through the scrub and water dragons basking in the sunlight – I was hooked. The city I believed was boring was actually teeming with life, when I stopped to look for it.

And that’s what brings me here: to share with you the natural beauties of Canberra. Every couple of weeks, I’ll be bringing you something new to explore within our gorgeous city and its surrounds. There’ll be bushwalk reviews, wildlife and plant spotlights, tips for getting the most out of the city, and more!

Remember: you don’t need to be an avid outdoorsy type to enjoy nature here. I’ll be covering plenty of easy walks, accessible adventures, and even places to watch wildlife from the comfort of a café table.

There’s something for EVERYBODY in the Natural Capital.

So stick around! I’ll be posting my very first article in a few weeks, going back to where it all began at the National Botanic Gardens. Stay tuned to find out what’s so special about the Gardens that it brought me to this point.

In the meantime, you can follow me on X and Instagram to stay updated. I’d love to hear from you!

I’ll see you in the next post.

Until then, stay wild!
